Common Aromatherapy Uses

Aromatherapy as used today originated in Europe and has been practiced there since the early 1900s. Practitioners of aromatherapy believe that every oil has a vibration or note, which can be used for different therapeutic applications.

Aromatherapy can be used to relax and soothe the mind and body, to energize or even to arouse. Aromatherapy derived from the use of essential oils to solicit specific emotions. Comfrey - The Perfect Gift For The Mother To Be

Comfrey
(Symphytum Officinale)

Medicinal Parts: Rootstock, leaves

Description: Comfrey is a perennial plant common in moist meadows and other moist places in the U.S. and Europe.

Properties: anodyne, astringent, demulcent, emollient, expectorant, hemostatic, refrigerant, vulnerary.

Comfrey is truly one of nature’s miracle cures. The root produces a high amount of a gummy material called mucilage, and the root and leaf are both high in allantoin, a substance that helps with cell proliferation. Comfrey is excellent for reducing the swelling around a fracture, thereby allowing the union to take place with greater facility. And according to herbalist John Gerard, “A salve concocted from the fresh herb will certainly tend to promote the healing of bruised and broken parts.”

My midwife first introduced me to Comfrey after the birth of my first child. To put it mildly, it was not an easy delivery. All of those little joys after childbirth were making me very uncomfortable. You know, the tearing, bruising, stitches, etc. The midwife instructed me to steep Comfrey leaves in hot water and add it to my sitz bath. The results were phenomenal. It relieved the discomfort almost instantaneously.

Today, any time I attend a baby shower, I make up a gift basket stocked with comfrey. I wrap a generous handful of comfrey leaves in cheesecloth, then tie it closed with a ribbon. The packets can then be tossed directly into a pot of water to steep. Recipients always think I’m a bit odd at first, but usually I receive a heartfelt thank you note a couple of weeks after the baby is born. This is one gift any mother-to-be will appreciate.

Comfrey is not always easy to find. If you don’t have a health food or herb supplier in your area, please visit us at http://usingherbs.com for direct links to online purveyors of organic herbs.

Colours of the Soul Colour Therapy

Colour surrounds us, we live and breath colour often on a subconscious level. How many of us take colour for granted? We often are so busy in our everyday lives to stop and realise the kaleidoscope of colour that surrounds us. Imagine a world without colour; how would this effect our feelings and emotions, our creative expression and our perception of the world we live in?

Colours in our environment affect us on a daily basis, they can act as unconscious triggers that influence how we think, feel and react to the world around us. We are able to see around 7,000,000 colours, some combinations can create a clash of the senses where as other colour combinations create an atmosphere of harmony and balance. The ‘right’ choice of colours can create a haven for relaxation or an environment that can increase productivity, stimulate the mind and raise energy levels.

Colour affects us all on a very deep level, we often use colour to describe how we feel. Instinctively we know what a particular colour symbolises to us or how it makes us feel. Think of phrases such as ‘feeling blue’, ‘in the pink’ or ‘red with rage’.

Color therapy works on the principle that we all are in need of light and colour to keep well balanced and in good health. Natural daylight contains all the colours of the spectrum that our energy centres need in order to stay well physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. It is essential that we spend a minimum of half an hour a day in natural daylight whatever the weather, as we absorb light and the coloured rays through our eyes and skin.

How do we know which colours we are in need of?

Colour surrounds us everywhere, some colours literally jump out at us, instantly and instinctively we breathe in as we experience that ‘must have’ feeling. These are the colours that we need to surround ourselves with on that particular day. We can place coloured objects in our working space or decorate our living space with flowers of our chosen colour. We can wear scarves, clothes or pieces of semi precious jewellery in our chosen colour.

Colon Hydrotherapy May Not Be A Complete Answer

The popularity of colon hydrotherapy is eminently understandable, in a world where we become increasingly aware of the dangers of many aspects of our modern lifestyle. With the easy availability of information through such mediums as television, video, and the local library, and more recently the Internet, most of us strive to do the best we can in maintaining our health, and grasp eagerly any chance we can find to improve our wellbeing. Despite a sometimes less than favorable response from the mainstream medical community, colonic hydrotherapy is a popular treatment, but should we ask ourselves whether it is one that addresses a symptom rather than attacking a cause?

As our fast paced world moves, almost in the blink of an eye, from books to computers, from video to DVD, and from regular doctor’s visits to online consultations with the Internet, we seem to be running out of time to take care of the things that really matter. While the health of our bodies, from our heart to our colon, remains important to so many of us, we are so busy with both working and playing hard that the time to eat properly and exercise regularly seems to evade us. We take a pill as soon as a headache strikes because we don’t have time to relax it away and hope that with hydrotherapy, colon operations that have gone awry will return to business as usual.

While medical tools such as the headache pill and colon hydrotherapy undoubtedly have a place in our busy lives, we should perhaps not view them as the panacea to our ills that we have arguably come to see them as. Colonic hydrotherapy reportedly yields enormous health benefits, improving the condition of skin and hair, and resulting in increased energy levels, but these are states of wellbeing experienced by most people with a healthy functioning colon. While a hydrotherapy treatment for the colonic area might be a useful condiment at the meal of health, when it becomes the staple of our diet, we must ask ourselves whether we, literally, are eating quite right.

While the effectiveness of colon hydrotherapy remains a matter of debate, the comfort and health earned by achieving and maintaining a healthy bowel is not. There is nothing wrong in reaching out for medical – whether it is mainstream or alternative – help when it is required, but over-dependence on such help should suggest that our bodies are not working as they should. Colon hydrotherapy might be a great way to add those final touches to your internal spring clean, but for the daily dusting of your colon and intestines, eating right, exercising and drinking plenty of water are your best ways to long-term health.

Colon hydrotherapy may be great treatment, but make sure you pay attention to other factors to ensure good colon health as well.
